Francisco Sanguino, Sevill c1759 - SOLD
This guitar is quoted in "The Spanish Guitar - La Guitarra Espanola, The Metropolitan Museum of Art". It states the following: There are five known guitars made by Francisco Sanguino and one attributed guitar and also two cellos. The earliest known guitar with fan struts, made by this maker in 1759, is in the Haags Gemeentemuseum. The fan strutting system is present in five out of the six guitars. In this deep body guitar with six double courses we find a primitive form of fan strutting; individual glue blocks used to join the soundboard and back to the ribs....all important facets that would influence the evolution of the modern concert guitar. We can see, in this made guitar, te fine quality of his work and his intuitive understanding of acoustics that is equally apparent in his other known guitars. There are three different known labels from this maker, and although little is known about him, was 'a famous and celebrated guitar maker' in his own time. This particular guitar is the one that is attributed to this maker. Cypress back and sides, three piece spruce sound board. Each surviving guitar by this maker all have extraordinary deep bodies.
